Well, I have never been there in the winter so I'm not sure. Sometimes, you can't even get to that point as GTTSR might be closed due to snowfall. You might want to contact them …

I don't think you would be in any danger Labor Day Weekend. We were there in mid May. The trailhead is right were they still had the Going To The Sun Road closed to vehicles …
I don't think you would be in any danger Labor Day Weekend. We were there in mid May. The trailhead is right were they still had the Going To The Sun Road closed to vehicles (although it was open quite a bit farther for bicycles and hikers). The problem then for Going to the Sun is they weren't finished plowing the road, that won't be in issue when you go even if there was a little snow.
