麻坡市，别称香妃城、皇城位于柔佛州西北部的麻坡河河口。麻坡的城市名由来，源自马来语中的“Muara”，意指“河口”。在 2020 年人口普查中，麻坡的人口为314,776人，使其成为柔佛第3大人口城市。 麻坡是马来西亚最古老的城市，其历史比马六甲更悠久，可追溯至满者伯夷时代。麻坡自扶南国时代起，就因其城边的麻河最上游近临彭亨河以及下游面向马六甲海峡而使其成为古代商人从南中国海通往马六甲海峡的出口，并成为贸易港口。麻坡早在公元前已有部落聚居，自公元8世纪起先后被室利佛逝，满者伯夷，马六甲苏丹国，葡萄牙王国，亚齐苏丹国，荷兰王国，英国，日本占领。葡萄牙殖民时代，葡萄牙政府在此设立了前哨站，建筑了麻坡古堡来抵御荷兰人和南部的亚齐人侵袭。在英殖民时代，麻坡和新山被称为“双城”，是当时柔佛最大的城市及政治、经济、文化、教育中心。苏丹阿布峇卡时代之后，麻坡仍是柔佛最重要的产业都市，人口数长年位居柔佛第一，直至1970年后被新山取代。
