Roping events measure the skills cowboys use on ranches. Once the rider ropes the calf, he dismounts at speed with the horse keeping a steady pull on the line to prevent the calf from running.

The main event takes place at the Mississippi Coliseum from Feb. 7 to Feb. 16, with a parade in downtown Jackson on Feb. 8.
