A 13th century painting depicting the Crusaders at Nicaea demonstrates the unique “versatility” of the infamous catapult. The floor of the Dracon Passage was still littered with their sun-bleached bones half a year later, when, in May of 1097, a mighty host of Christian Crusaders arrived on the scene and promptly laid siege to the city.

These projectiles, fired during the 1266 siege of Kenilworth Castle amid the Second Baron's War, vary in size, with the largest weighing 105kg and the smallest just 1kg.
