2013年7月7日 · In the 1995 cold steel catalog which I believe is the first time the 14BBC appears as a "400 stainless steel made in Taiwan" knife it states that the steel is imported from Japan. And in the technical specs it states "Aus8A". So I don't think it is 420 sub zero quenched or otherwise.

2000年4月10日 · 0.05% carbon is just barely above what will dissolve in ferrite (0.02%). A steel like that would be difficult to get a sharp edge on just due to the low strength and the nearly impossible to remove burr that would form. Also, just a little knife world paradox, but harder steel (stronger) flexes more than softer steel. Softer steel will bend.

2009年8月26日 · 316 and 314 stainless have almost no magnetic attraction. All 400 series has a very high magnetic attraction due to it's higher iron content. 300 series can not be heat treated well due to it's low iron content. Looking at scrap yard/recyclers designations 300 series and other stainless that is almost non-magnetic is listed as non-ferrous.

2002年7月2日 · I have a Cold Steel Black Bear Classic for sale. Early Taiwan made 400 series stainless. It is in excellent condition and was never used by me. The collector I bought it from said it hadn't been ever used and advertised it as new, but I think it has been sharpened at one point as I see some very tiny scratch marks on one side of the grind.

2001年7月24日 · The knife is EXTREMLY well made and Cold Steel tells me that the "400 series stainless" is Cryo-quenched 420. This does not act like any 420J2 junk that I have ever seen and the Chineese (Tawaineese) have been making blades for centries.

2001年7月9日 · There are so many factors affecting 'edge retention' that claims of one steel over another are kind of meaningless. I believe that 420HC out-performed 440C in Buck's CATRA tests, and that is one reason why they chose that steel. I have a bunch of CS knives, including some in mystery '400 series' stainless steel, and they all cut.
