2012年7月25日 · So gneiss is effectively a granite which has undergone enormous compression under ductile conditions (deep in the earth a long time ago), such that it's mineral constituents are now strongly aligned, or "foliated". The foliation is usually produced by mica. The term "gneiss" is very generic, and covers a whole family of layered, granite-like rocks.

At the site boring, 2 rock corings were conducted, both had a 2' of void out of 5' run, that implied a Rec 60%. The RQD is 47%. Rock is Gneiss. Unfortunately, due to the technical difficulty the boring had to end there.

It sounds as if the rock is so close to surface that you should be able to tell if the upper surface is affected by frost or not. Funny how codes should be the "guiding light" but put all into a restrictive box . . .

How you drill the socket can depend on how many sockets you need to drill, how much overburden you need to drill through, how hard and drillable the rock is, and if the overburden needs to be drilled using a casing pipe that has a larger diameter than the socket.
