The real “old money” aesthetic, is (a) not being wasteful, (b) having nice things and taking care of them as to make them last longer, (c) not overtly having designer logos everywhere, (d) always allowing your reputation and they way you carry yourself to convey that you are in fact “old money”, AKA not announcing it to the world 😂

2023年2月9日 · Agreed. It’s not supposed to represent what actual old money wears, it’s an idealised aesthetic inspired by preppy and the old-timey Ivy League aesthetic. Real old money probably doesn’t dress half as well - because they’re rich enough (and secure enough in their wealth) not to care about “looking rich”.

Without getting into my personal history too much, old money aesthetic goes hand-in-hand with attitudes and rules on civility. These rules are tough to learn and more difficult to follow if you weren’t raised with it. A lot of these rules are bullshit and fake. You’d understand this if you went to a cotillion as a teenager.

I'm not entirely sure how the internet at large defines "old money aesthetic" but a good place to look would be the Royals (King Charles, in particular. Or The Crown) and Ivy Style. I think more American and English style clothes, rather than Italian, when I picture old money, which may limit your options, as far as tailoring brands are concerned.

2023年8月27日 · The problem is that the old money aesthetic is an EXTREME form of every standard that already exists. All of these old money types are 6’2 minimum, not simply “tall”. They’re not just earning six figures (already an unrealistic ask in a country with an a see age salary of around 55K), they have entire estates, yachts, and trust funds.

The old money aesthetic is more…bland, for lack of a better word. It is similar to clean girl, but swap out the trendy pieces for ones that wouldn’t look out of place on a sixty-year-old brunching with her bestie at a country club.

It's all about being appropriate, wearing the varsity of a well-known school that had lots of old money students and actually not standing out. There was a YouTube topic about this from Mina Le regarding the history of Old Money aesthetic. I mean, I feel like the term Old Money is neither masculine nor feminine.

2023年3月31日 · I mean it’s a real term but it’s not really a single definable aesthetic, it just refers to generational wealth (as in 3+ generations or so). Elon Musk is old money, the Koch brothers are old money, the Trumps are old money, etc, it’s really not the kind of thing you should aspire to emulate unless you look up to some major shitheads.
