Why doesn't H₄CO₄ exist as a stable compound?
2019年12月14日 · Wikipedia reports that calculations show orthocarbonic acid spontaneously decomposes to the ordinary (meta)carbonic acid $\ce{H2CO3}$ plus water. However, orthocarbonate esters $\ce{C(OR)4}$ do exist, and more recently salts with the alkaline earth metals have been synthesized under conditions matching the deep mantle of Earth.
What would be the intermolecular forces between the molecules …
2019年1月9日 · It is also referred to as orthocarbonic acid. Since the molecule has a molecular geometry of a tetrahedron, similar to that of a molecule of methane, I would assume that the dipoles at the bonds cancel each other out. Hence, making the molecule non-polar with no dipole or charge separation overall.
Does the prefix Ortho have some significance? [duplicate]
2020年1月8日 · The reference given by Andselisk does not bring an answer to the question about the origin of the prefix "ortho" in inorganic nomenclature.

For example, orthoformic acid spontaneously decomposes into formic acid and water, while orthocarbonic acid spontaneously decomposes into carbonic acid and water. As a matter of fact, these two acids have never been isolated.
What do the prefixes meta, ortho, pyro mean in inorganic chemistry?
2015年11月11日 · The usage ‘*ortho-phosphoric acid’ and the like has been deemed unnecessary and obsolete because there is no ‘other’ form of phosphoric acid that one could want to differ between. The former meta -forms are better described as what they actually are: cyclo -triphosphoric acid, for example.

Heating effect on Orthoboric Acid - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2021年6月19日 · Metaboric acid is a white, cubic crystalline solid and is only slightly soluble in water. Metaboric acid melts at about 236°C, and when heated above about 300°C further dehydrates, forming tetraboric acid, also called pyroboric acid ($\ce{H2B4O7}$): $\ce{4HBO2 → H2B4O7 + H2O}$ The term boric acid may sometimes refer to any of these compounds.
