They have many jobs and roles: teachers, professors, counselors, homemakers, agency directors, business executives, government workers, and others.

Deafblindness refers to the combination of hearing and visual loss that severely impedes communication, education, employment, and independent living. While some individuals are totally deaf and blind, most deafblind people have different degrees of hearing and vision loss.

Some people are deaf-blind from birth. Others may be born deaf or hard-of-hearing and become blind or visually impaired later in life; or the reverse may be the case. Still others may be adventitiously deaf-blind — that is, they are born with both sight and hearing but lose some or all of these senses as a result of acci­ dent or illness.
