There are 29 accepted species and 147 accepted subspecies of the Morpho butterfly genus. They are found mostly in the primary forests of South America, Mexico, and Central America.Morphos have a very distinctive, slow, bouncy flight pattern due to their wing area being enormous relative to their body size. Many of the Morpho species are metallic shimmery shades of blue and it is thought that the flash of the iridescent blue to their dark underside confuses predators when in flight.#morpho #bluem
